After months of deliberation, USD 410 board of education approved the purchase of the former Irv Schroeder County Motors buildings, now owned by Midway Motors, at 415 and 416 Date, Hillsboro, for $395,000 which will become the location for the district’s central office, and transportation and maintenance facility.
At Monday’s meeting, the board entered into a 10-minute executive session to discuss acquisition of property.
When the meeting returned to open session, board president Rod Koons said the board looked at several options including building a new facility.
“The lawsuit came along and changed our plans,” Koons said. The board then negotiated with the Hoover family and purchased the car dealership facility.
Midway Motors has purchased property from the City of Hillsboro to build a new facility by U.S.-56.
Bond proceeds will pay for the purchase and renovations, as needed.
Superintendent Doug Huxman said the facility will meet the district’s needs and was purchased at a reasonable price.
No definite timeline was determined as to when Midway Motors will build and the school district will take possession.
