Schools get Healthy Habits grants

Marion, Hillsboro, and Goessel schools have received grants from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation for programs that promote healthy choices.
Marion High School received $2,000 for supplies for Junior Warriors, an after-school program that will focus on teaching students lifetime physical activities such as tennis, disc golf, and golf.
Marion Middle School received $2,000 for supplies and equipment for physical activities such as pickleball, disc golf, and racquetball.
Hillsboro Elementary School received $2,000 for two new games — Eclipse Ball and Eclipse Oval Ball — that teach students to volley underhand and overhand.
Goessel Junior/Senior High School received $1,970 for a Fitness Friday program that will include personal fitness trackers and equipment such as yoga mats, exercise balls, and balance boards.
The foundation gives out about $200,000 every year through its Healthy Habits for Life grants. It awarded grants to 119 schools this year in four areas: reducing cardiovascular risk, increasing physical activity, learning healthy eating habits, and reinforcing positive mental health.
