Schools to present fall musicals
Staff writer
Marion High School and Hillsboro High School students will present musical performances this weekend.
Marion will present “Little Women” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 at The County Seat in Marion or at the door.
The musical is a Civil War story based on Louisa May Alcott’s life. It follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March.
In it, Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but publishers are not interested. Her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her she needs to write more from herself. She writes the story of her and her sisters’ growing up during the Civil War.
Hillsboro High School will present “Seussical the Musical” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $10.
The comedy incorporates many Dr. Seuss stories and themes.
Among them are “Horton Hears a Who,” “Gertrude McFuzz,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “The Lorax,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” “Hop on Pop,” “Yertle the Turtle,” “Horton Hatches the Egg,” “I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew,” “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” “McElligot’s Pool.”
Also, “Oh Say Can You Say,” “Hunches in Bunches,” “If I Ran the Circus,” “Dr. Seuss’s ABC,” “The Butter Battle Book,” “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think,” “Fox in Socks,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “The Sneetches and Other Stories,” “Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are,” and “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”
Because of incorrect information provided by the school, the $5 price of tickets for the Marion performance was incorrectly reported in some editions of this week's paper as well as in a Warrior Update issued by the school.
