At the Dec. 16 meeting at Marion Senior Center, The senior citizens of Marion County board of directors voted to distribute $600 a piece to the nutrition sites in Goessel, Hillsboro, Marion, and Peabody and award $200 to the remaining five senior centers. The funds consist of $3,400 left over from the 2011 budget.

Board Chairman Lila Unruh told the board about a Kansas Day Supper at Eastmoor united Methodist Church Jan. 29. The cost of the supper is $12.50.

Marion County Department on Aging Coordinator Gayla Ratzlaff distributed her handout with information about food sales, Homestead, and low income energy assistance program for the upcoming season. She also said the department will be taking its van to Older Kansas Day on Feb. 8 in Topeka.

Fiennes Jantz, transportation committee chairman, reported six individuals attended the defensive driving emergency procedures workshop in McPherson. The larger van received four new tires and an area of rust was repaired on the caravan.

Virginia Downing, AOK volunteer, suggested to board members that when they buy gift cards to purchase them at the Customer Service Desk. Scammers scan gift cards in the checkout line and then use the purchased card as if it was their own. Another scam is an e-mail greeting card. She also reported that Lipitor will soon be sold in generic form.

Shirley Bowers, nominating bylaws committee chairman, reported the members willing to serve were Lila Unruh as chairman, Judy Mellott for vice-chairman, and Dee Duggan for secretary and treasurer.

Joyce Kyle, senior center committee chairman, reported that 26 people attended Chirstmas dinner at Burns Café and Florence had 12 people attend their Christmas dinner at Corral Mercantile. She also reported that Goessel still needs daily volunteers and 2012 Board Members.
