Shewey places 1st at Conway Springs

The Hillsboro High School tennis team finished third out of four teams Thursday at Conway Springs.

Grant Shewey placed first at the meet with wins over Kyle Burger of Conway Springs, 8-3, and Cody Pearson of McPherson, 8-3.

Taylor Hagen and Jared Hamm also won two matches as a doubles tandem, defeating Charlie Arbuckle and Conner Schafer, of McPherson, 8-7, and Duncan Kohn and Jonathan Nyguard of Wichita Trinity, 8-1.

“It was a good start to the season,” Head Tennis Coach Stuart Holmes said. “It was especially good to see Taylor and Jared play better each match, win a tie breaker in their second match, and then finish strong with an 8-1 win in the last.”
