Shirley Strotkamp

Shirley Ann Strotkamp, 79, born October 12, 1935, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aloysius A. and Bertha E. (Weber) Strotkamp; brothers, Vernon A. Strotkamp, Glen A. Strotkamp, and Victor I. Strotkamp; her companion of over 50 years, Frank C. Bowen; nephew, Wayne Strotkamp, and niece, Linda Strotkamp.

Family survivors include six nephews, two nieces, and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

Shirley lived her life in Peabody, Kansas, except two years in Michigan, where she worked for a telephone company.

She worked at Hehr Glass in Newton, Kansas, for 20 years and also bartended in Newton.

She worked as a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service.

Shirley was best known for being a business entrepreneur. Much of her life she was the owner and operator of the Coneburg Inn in Peabody.

Shirley was also well known throughout Peabody for her generosity and her willingness to help people in need.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence, Kansas.

Burial will be at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody following the service.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Baker Funeral Home, Peabody.

Memorials may be made to Post No. 95 American Legion Peabody Avenue of Flags and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Wichita, Kansas.
