When Kaylee, 8, and Collin Hunter, 5, decided to made Easter bags for residents at Marion Assisted Living, it was because they knew it was important to provide a service.

“They don’t get to see the people they love,” Kaylee Hunter said.

The two siblings, along with grandmother Linda Lovelady, made 16 rabbit-themed bags with Easter eggs and pre-wrapped chocolates.

Making the bags was a good experience because it helped the children understand the struggles of not being able to see family, Lovelady said.

“There are people around who aren’t as fortunate,” she said. “They don’t all have family or grandkids around, and with everything going on, they can’t have family come in.”

After making the gift bags once, the children enjoyed it enough to try again. They hope to make more gifts for future holidays.

Despite the temptation of chocolate, the siblings said they waited to have their own candy until finishing the bags.

As sweet a treat as the chocolate was, Collin said his favorite part was decorating the bags.

“I like stickers,” he said.

The project took a full day but that still didn’t deter the family.

“It was fun,” Kaylee said.

Once the bags were finished, they were dropped off Monday at Marion Assisted Living. The siblings couldn’t directly deliver the bags since Marion Assisted living is not allowing visitors, but they were able to be brought in by employees.
