Soup sales augment operating fund at city library

Staff writer

It may not have been perfect “soup” weather but Hillsboro City Library patrons and supporters enjoyed the warm fare and gave generously to the library fund last week at their soup lunch fundraiser.

“We had a good turnout and ran out of several kinds of soup,” board president Steve Vincent said. “People appreciated what we offered even though the weather was in the 80s.”

Vincent said the event raised more than $100 that the board will use to purchase new books and maintain general expenses at the library.

“The city cut us again this year,” he said. “We are funded by taxes and without the extra money from fundraisers we would not be able to continue operations.”

In addition to the winter soup lunch, the library sold books to raise funds. Vincent said the board plans to serve a farmer’s market meal in June to raise additional funds.
