Students recognized by HHS
Hillsboro High School recognized two boys and two girls as students of the month for March.
They are senior Taylor Nikkel, juniors Marshall Hoffner and Bret Mueller, and sophomore Tena Loewen.
Taylor has been active as a member of the Wichita Mustangs softball team, Hillsboro FFA, Hillsboro High School softball team, Mennonite Brethren youth organization, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marion County. She enjoys playing softball, participating in FFA events, and “hanging with the boys.”
She plans to attend Cloud County Community College on a softball scholarship, studying pre-veterinarian sciences and agriculture business. She wants to continue playing softball at a four-year college and become a veterinarian.
She is the daughter of Jessie Nikkel of Hillsboro and the late Vince Nikkel.
Marshall has participated as a member of the school’s chess team, qualifying for state competition, and is involved with a youth group. His hobbies include watching television, the Internet, and playing video games.
He plans to attend a school in Kansas City and possibly pursue a career in video games.
Mike and Ginger Hoffner of Durham are his parents.
Bret participates in cross-country, wrestling, and track and is a member of 4-H. He enjoys playing and watching sports.
His plans include pursuing an education in business.
He is the son of Ronald and Kaylene Mueller of Tampa.
Tena has participated in volleyball, basketball, softball, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the fall musical. Her hobbies include kayaking, swimming, scrapbooking, hiking, baking, and playing sports.
She plans to attend college when she finishes high school.
Dave and Joanne Loewen of Hillsboro are her parents.
