Sylvia Dewey Muse
WICHITA — Sylvia Dewey Muse, 101, retired Director of Patient Relations, Wesley Medical Center, died Oct. 27, 2012.
Sylvia was born Feb. 14, 1911, daughter of Henry and Harriet Grabill at Hesston, Kan. Her parents and five siblings preceded her in death.
She attended Hesston schools and received her B.A. Degree from the University of Wichita, now Wichita State University. In 1929, she married the Rev. Raymond E. Dewey and they served United Methodist churches or institutions for almost 40 years until his death in 1969. After his death, she became the Director of Patient Relations at Wesley Medical Center. She later served United Methodist Youthville, Newton, as public relations consultant during a statewide financial campaign. When that was completed, she became a member of the staff of the First United Methodist Church, Wichita, in the church caring ministry.
In 1979, she married J. Kenneth Muse of Marion, Kan., and became a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and later great-great-grandmother, a wonderful family. They and her nieces and nephews and their families brought blessings to her in so many different ways. After Kenneth’s death in 1990, she moved to Larksfield Place, Wichita, where she has since resided.
She is survived by a stepson and wife, Charles and Anne Muse, Topeka; stepdaughter Jean Hein, Winfield; step-grandchildren and spouses, Barbara and Eric King, Lawrence, Mary Jo and Dr. Steven Rohr, Wichita, Douglas and Dale Hein, Mulvane, Marilyn and Bradley Short, St. Louis, Mo., Dr. Roger and Donna Muse, San Antonio, Texas, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a nephew and nieces: Dale White, Hesston, Enola Dreier, Hesston, Ruth Grabill, Topeka, and many great-nieces and -nephews. Preceded in death by stepson in law, Allen Hein, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the University United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. at University United Methodist Church.
