Tabor baseball team wins third consecutive title

With a sweep of the McPherson Bulldogs this past weekend, the Tabor College baseball team won its third KCAC regular season title in as many years.

Friday the Bluejays defeated the Bulldogs 23-5 and 8-5 in McPherson, then won 17-3 and 13-7 Saturday in Hillsboro.

With a 43-10 record, Tabor enters as the No. 1 seed at the conference tournament in Great Bend. The team will play the winner between Bethany College and the University of St. Mary at 3 p.m. Saturday. The tournament bracket is available at http://www.kcacsports.com.

Softball finishes sixth

The Tabor softball team lost twice, 3-2 and 8-2 to MidAmerica Nazarene University April 23 in Olathe before rebounding in 10-0 and 19-2 wins against Haskell Indian Nations University Friday.

Finishing 9-9 in conference play, the Lady Jays will enter the KCAC tournament as the sixth seed. They will play Bethany College in the tournament’s opening round at noon Thursday at the Great Bend Sports Complex in Great Bend.

Throwers fare well at Southwestern Relays

Tabor throwers David Loewen and Robert Nenadal placed high among collegians Saturday at Southwestern College.

Loewen finished second in the javelin and was the third highest collegian in the discus throw. Nenadal was the top collegiate finisher in the hammer and placed fifth in the discus.

Bret Mueller finished fourth in the 800-meter run while Geoff Pugh was fourth in the pole vault.

Kristen Harris tied her own school record in the pole vault with a 10-foot, 11.75-inch jump, for fifth place. She also was fourth in the 400 hurdles.
