Tabor choir preparing for final concert

The Tabor College Concert Choir has completed its annual spring tour, after performing in seven churches in Denver and central California, and now the choir is preparing for the home finale of the tour.

The choir will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. The concert theme is “The Radiance of His Glory,” based on Hebrews 1:3.

“So many texts speak of the glory of God and the glory of Christ, and Hebrews 1:3 proclaims that Christ is ‘the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being,’” choral music professor Brad Vogel said. “I wanted to focus on how we as believers reflect the Lord’s glory and so looked for texts that would speak of our live in and for Christ.”

The choir will perform a broad array of pieces from hymn arrangements to contemporary versions of ancient texts, as well as Vogel’s arrangement of “Holy, Holy, Holy.”

Megan Wiebe and Zach Neumann will accompany the choir on piano. Instrumentalists will be featured, including Rachel Goering on flute and a string quartet of Ryan Loewen and Cheyenne Derksen on violin, Jessica Coldwell on viola, and Natalie Wiens on cello.

Guest pianist to perform April 11

Pianist Paul Kenyon, professor of music at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, will perform at 6 p.m. April 11 in the Tabor College Chapel-Auditorium.

He earned his doctorate in musical arts for piano performance from Michigan State University. He also has degrees from Mansfield University and Bowling Green State University and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

Before moving to San Diego, he taught piano at Western Michigan University and Wright State University.

His concert is called “Famous Last Words” and will feature some of the final masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and Claude Debussy.
