Tabor College hosts Special Olympic tournament

The faculty and students of Tabor College, in cooperation with the Hillsboro Kiwanis, will be hosting a basketball tournament Saturday for Special Olympics.

Tabor College volunteers will referee and run the clock and scoreboard. Hillsboro Kiwanis will provide sack lunches for the competitors.

“Our students come away from it realizing how fortunate they are for what they have,” Tabor College Associate Athletic Director Karol Hunt said.

More than 150 athletes from Marion, Harvey, Reno and Sedgwick counties will participate in this tournament. Games will be played on the Tabor campus at the Campus Recreation Center and the main gym. Tournament play will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 1:30 p.m.

For the athletes, the tournament is a warm up for the Kansas Special Olympic State Tournament March 18 through 20 held at Hays.

Tabor College and Kiwanis have sponsored this tournament for over 25 years.
