Tabor hires athletic director

A former Christian college coach and current events manager working with Oregon State University sports will become Tabor College’s athletic director July 8, the college announced this week.

Martin “Marty” Ziesemer, who was women’s soccer coach at Corban University in Salem, Oregon, will replace interim athletic director Shawn Reed.

Reed, the college’s head women’s basketball coach, assumed the position in August after Rusty Allen was named executive vice president in charge of athletics, enrollment management, student life, facilities and the performing arts.

Ziesemer has a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University – Irvine in California.

He received multiple coach-of-the-year honors at Corban and ranked in the top 10 in wins among NAIA women’s soccer coaches. He also was Corban’s vice president for enrollment management from 2006 to 2013.

In a news release, Ziesemer noted Tabor’s intentional integration of faith and athletics.

“I value the opportunity to use Christian faith to help Tabor athletes and coaches succeed in more than just competition,” he was quoted as saying. “While winning and losing are a significant part of athletics, it’s a part of the greater goal that our programs have in a Christian college environment.”
