TABOR: Lady Jays defeat conference leader

The Tabor College volleyball team twice went five matches before winning last week.

Visiting Ottawa University Oct. 23, the Bluejays won in five games, 25-20, 15-25, 25-20, 22-25, and 15-12. It took five matches to defeat the Braves in their first meeting as well.

Traveling to Salina on Friday, Tabor again went five games, defeating KCAC leader Kansas Wesleyan 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, and 15-11.

The Bluejays have their last two home games before the conference tournament, playing St. Mary at 7 p.m. tonight, then Friends at 7 p.m. Monday.

Football team shuts down McPherson offense

In the Bluejay’s first game with McPherson College since 2011, the Tabor defense held the Bulldogs to 101 yards of total offense and negative-3 yards rushing en route to a 29-14 win.

The Bluejays play next at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Hillsboro against Bethany College.

Soccer teams struggle to win

The Tabor men’s soccer team twice went to double overtime last week, tying one game, but losing the other.

The Bluejays lost 2-1 to McPherson College Oct. 23, and then tied Bethany 1-1 Saturday in Hillsboro.

The women’s team lost their games by bigger margins. At McPherson Oct. 23, the Lady Jays lost 3-1, and then lost 4-0 to Bethany Saturday.

Upcoming

Both the men and women travel to Ottawa University Saturday. The women start at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8:30.

Tuesday, the Bluejays play Bethel in Hillsboro. The women start at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.

Cross-country teams place at Mid-states Classic

Junior Joel Allen again led the men’s team Saturday in Winfield, placing sixth in a field of 229 runners. The Bluejays finished 12th of 25 as a whole, with Garrett Daugherty placing 17th and Bret Mueller finishing 77th.

The women’s team placed 17 out of 21 teams at the meet. Brielle Lund led the Bluejays, finishing in 33rd place, followed by Hannah Holmes, who finished 68th.

The Bluejays go back to Winfield Saturday to compete in the KCAC conference championships. The women start at 10:45 a.m., the men following at 11:30.

OTHER SPORTS

The men’s and women’s basketball teams begin regular season play Friday. The men play at 7 p.m. in Atchison against Benedictine College, then at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bartlesville, Okla., against Oklahoma Wesleyan.

The women play at 8 p.m. in Baldwin City against Baker for their first game of the Baker Classic. Their second game comes against MidAmerica Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Jays then travel to Hastings, Neb., to play Hastings College, beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
