The Tabor College mens’ basketball team ended 2008 on a hot note Saturday in Wichita, holding off the Friends Falcons, 66-61, for its third straight victory.
Kyle de Blonk and Mike Rousell combined for 22 points with de Blonk scoring a team-high 12, as nine out the 10 Bluejays who played contributed.
The win leaves a three-way tie atop the KCAC with the Bluejays, McPherson, and Sterling all standing at 3-1 in conference play with the Bulldogs a game up overall on both Tabor and the Warriors at 8-4.
Behind 42 percent shooting from the field, Tabor was able to take a 34-32 halftime lead as the Falcons (5-7, 1-3 KCAC) suffered through a chilly 35 percent shooting.
The outcome may have been better for Friends, but the Bluejays’ perimeter defense limited the Falcons to a miserable 6-for-27 from long range.
Tabor didn’t allow Friends many chances at the free-throw line either, as the Falcons went just 5-for-9.
Dan Dechant’s game-high 12 rebounds allowed the Bluejays to dominate the glass, 44-37.
The Bluejays return to action Jan. 2, competing at Hillsboro in the Tabor Classic.
