Tabor offense explodes in opener

After struggling to score for most of the first half of the season, the Tabor College men’s soccer team erupted for seven goals Saturday in its opening KCAC match, defeating the University of St. Mary, 7-3.

“The men were finally able to find the back of the net consistently,” head coach Grant Brubacher. “It was nice to get a solid lead and be able to spread out the playing time.”

Senior Silas Hibbs and sophomore Marcos Bandeira scored two goals apiece, while junior Andy Adrian and freshmen Noah Collins, and Alberto Scherer (playing in his first game of the year), each had one goal apiece.

Adrian, Hibbs, senior Ben Ruzinsky, and freshman Liam Mclean each added an assist.

The Bluejays built a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

Junior Aaron Schmucker had six saves as the Bluejays improved to 3-6 overall, and 1-0 in KCAC play.

In a Sept. 29 match against William Woods University, Tabor fell 2-1 on the road.

Junior Dallas Pruitt scored Tabor’s lone goal.

The Bluejays played host Monday to Hillsdale Baptist at 4 p.m. and play at 4 p.m. at home today (Wednesday) against McPherson College.
