Tabor student flute recital on Tuesday

Tabor College student Emily Schmidt will perform her junior recital on flute at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Tabor College Chapel. The recital is open to the public.

Schmidt is a music education major studying under Joyann Brake. She anticipates graduating in May. Russell Schmidt and Elizabeth Hofer of Wichita are her parents.

She will perform Allegretto malincolico, Canatilena and Presto giocoso from Sonate for flute and piano by Francis Poulenc, Fantasie by Gabriel Faure, Amhran from Flute Cncerto by Christopher Rouse, Heiter bewegt, Sehr lansam, and Sehr lebhaft/Marsch from Soante by Paul Hindemith, and Of Winds and Wings by Tabor College instrumentals director Daniel Baldwin.

“I selected these pieces because I like them,” Schmidt said. “Some of the music I liked immediately, and others took hearing a few times before I could decide, but I enjoy all of the pieces immensely. They also provide a challenge both technically and expressively.”

After graduating in the spring, Schmidt will return in the fall to complete her student teaching requirements.
