TABOR: TABOR MEN'S BASKETBALL

Tabor men now 8-5 on the season

The Tabor College men’s basketball team moved its record to 8-5 after splitting two games this past week in the annual Tabor College Classic.

Marion native Jared Hett and Zack Vanselow led all scorers Saturday in a victory against Benedictine College with 15 points each.

The Bluejays defeated the Ravens, 74-67.

Despite trailing by 10 points in the second half and without the services of starters Aaron Whitelaw and Kyle Kroeker for most of the game, Vanselow and Hett led the comeback by hitting a combined 12-of-18 shots from the field.

Sophomore Kyle de Blonk came off the bench and chipped in six points, five assists, and three rebounds.

Kroeker, who left with a broken nose, added 11 points.

The victory came one day after TC fell to undefeated Central Methodist University (Fayette, Mo.), 93-78.

Sophomore Damon Dechant was red-hot from the field, connecting on 10-of-17 shots and scoring a team-high 22 points.

Orson Thomas added 19 points and Vaneslow had 11 in the loss.

The non-conference games left Tabor tied for first in the KCAC with a 3-1 record.

The Bluejays lost an exhibition game Monday to Newman, 94-72, which does not affect its record.

The team will play Thursday at home against University of St. Mary before heading to Newton Saturday to take on Bethel College.
