Tabor to hold Special Olympics basketball tournament

For nearly 40 years, Tabor College and Hillsboro Kiwanis have sponsored the longest running basketball tournament for Special Olympics.

Almost 300 athletes and coaches representing 27 teams from four counties will be participating Saturday in the tournament.

Action will take place at both Tabor’s gym and across the street at the Student Activity Center during the tournament scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Divisions are made up of teams with similar ability levels, giving the team needed game experience before they compete at the Kansas Special Olympics state tournament at Fort Hays State University next month.

The actions of community groups that support events like this that allows Special Olympics to offer success to people who are often left out of life’s mainstream.

Anyone with questions concerning the tournament can call Deborah Collier at home or by cell at (316)283-4263, or (316)284-7572, or by email at debkcollier@gmail.com.
