Tillie Hein spent Dec. 26 at Cottonwood Falls with Pamela and Bill Fillmore. Others present included Becky and Bill Nottingham of Ozawkie, Debra and Terry Dody of Manhattan, and Bill Remington and Dolores Scott of Emporia.

Glenn Kerbs of Dodge City came to Tampa the afternoon of Dec. 24 to spend Christmas with his mother, Lucille Kerbs. They attended the Christmas Eve service at St. John’s Lutheran Church. After the service, Jesse and Ashton Smith and Sydney of Pilsen and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn joined them for supper at Lucille’s home. On Christmas Day, Glenn and Lucille visited Doug and Connie Thompson and Taylor and their guests, Jeremy and Allison Sluder and Brooklyn in Abilene. They also visited Clayton and Leah Kerbs and Porter, who have recently moved to Abilene from Topeka. They had a dinner later at a restaurant in Hillsboro.

Christmas dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus were Don and Ophelia Jacobson and Greg Jacobson of Hope, Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody of Hillsboro, John and Wanda Lewis, Paul, Sarah and Luke of Anthony, Brad Backhus, Jason Backhus and Alisha Barney. Additional supper guests were Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Phyllis Mueller and Rod Mueller.

Georgia Spohn was a Christmas dinner guest of Gary and Carole Spohn.

Christmas weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha were Susie Rziha of Lincoln, Neb., Julie Rziha of Sabetha, Cecilia Rziha of Dallas, Texas, and Emilio and Janie Aita, Antonio, Sebastian, Raphael and Mariana of Glen Carbon, III.

Christmas weekend guests of Tom and Dee Duggan were Daria Hall of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Adam Hall of Springfield, Mo., and Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington.

Tillie Hein was a Christmas dinner guest of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Christmas Eve supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Nikki Stenzel of Manhattan, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, Greg Stenzel and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna. Lisa, Anna, Lori, Anna Mae and Nikki attended church services, while Ronnie kept Frank company. All returned Christmas Day except Greg and Nikki, who had their Stenzel family Christmas, and Tom, who was ill.

Jane Vajnar was a Christmas dinner guest of John and Kathy Oborny and Diane Steiner. Additional supper and evening guests were Father Paul Oborny of Wichita and Dan and Kirn Oborny, Ethan and Logan.

Dinner guests of Leo and Sue Yanda Dec. 22 for an early Christmas celebration were Steve and Sheri Spohn, Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn.

Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Dec. 22 and had dinner with her daughter, Connie Thompson.

Although the first day of winter officially was Dec. 21, Tampa residents saw it arrive Dec. 19 with a blinding snowstorm. Jane Vajnar visited Jonas and Kim Frantz that evening and wondered whether she would make it home. Visibility was almost zero. The sun came out the next day and left the world looking like a Currier & Ives card.

People in this area are grieving with the families of Harry Wedel and Jim Donahue. Both were residents of the Durham-Tampa community for many years and had many friends here.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Tampa State Bank’s Christmas party Dec. 15 at The Grand Hotel in Cottonwood Falls. They had Christmas dinner Dec. 19 at Hilltop Community Center, Herington.

Phyllis Mueller, Rod Mueller and Paul and Edna Backhus attended a basketball game Dec. 18 at Southeast of Saline High School in which Phyllis’s grandson, Tyler Heath, played.

Janey Hummel of Haysville picked up Jeanne Rziha Dec. 16 and took her to Enterprise to visit their mother, Bonnie Haslouer, at the nursing home.

Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson and Taylor at Abilene Dec. 15. They had dinner together.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Herington high school and middle school band and vocal winter concert the afternoon of Dec. 16. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, sang a solo. The Duggans were in Herington the morning of Dec. 15 to watch Kaylee play basketball.

Dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus on Dec. 16 were Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody of Hillsboro, Brad Backhus, Jason Backhus, and Alisha Barney.

Becky Routh of August and Leona Kleiber attended the fueral of Goldie Steely Dec. 14 at the Burdick United Methodist Church. En route home they stopped to visit Brenda Swinney and Darrell Swinney. Many from this area know Mrs. Steely because of the many years she gave private piano and vocal music lessons.

Rustyn Kerbs visited his grandmother, Lucille Kerbs, the morning of Dec. 14.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended a pre-school Christmas program Dec. 13 at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Their grandson, Cody Jay, was one of the children who performed. Other attending included Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Peggy and Larry Jay of Goessel, Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Jason Backhus and Alisha Barney.

Terry Vinduska of Marion, Melissa Stuchlik of Pilsen and Leona Kleiber had dinner at the café Dec. 13.

Lori Moldenhauer and Anna Mae Stika attended a meeting in Herington Dec. 12 of the Tabitha Society. Lisa Hanschu kept Frank Stika company while they were gone.

Everett and Rhea Kolling of Herington, Joy Cox and Dixie Kracke of Abilene and Tom and Dee Duggan were among those attending the production, “Smoke on the Mountain” Dec 12 at Great Plains Theater in Abilene.
