A number of relatives and friends from Tampa were among those attending a surprise 80th birthday party Jan. 13 at Iola for Lawrence Mueller. The honoree and guests met at a pizza place for dinner and then went to the home of Mueller’s daughter, Susan Platt, for cake and ice cream. Guests from this area included Tom and Dee Duggan, Betty Mueller, Donald and Francie Mueller, Phyllis Mueller, Rod Mueller, Warren and Paul Fike, and Dan and Linda Peterson.

Lucille Kerbs accompanied Russ and Julie Kerbs to Pilsen on Jan. 12 for Sydney Smith’s fifth birthday party at the home of her parents, Jesse and Ashton Smith. Rustyn Kerbs of Hillsboro was also present along with other relatives and friends.

Dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus on Jan. 13 were Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody of Hillsboro, and Brad Backhus.

Dinner guests of Russ and Julie Kerbs on Jan. 13 were Lucille Kerbs, Rustyn Kerbs of Hillsboro, and Jesse and Ashton Smith and Sydney of Pilsen.

Nicholas Kleiber of Salina visited his grandmother, Leona Kleiber, on Jan. 11.

Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson in Abilene on Jan. 11. They joined Allison Sluder and Brooklyn for dinner out.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League met Jan. 9 in the basement of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Clark Davis presented the topic, and Joyce Medley gave opening and closing devotions. After the meeting, the group enjoyed potluck snacks. Others present were Edna Backhus, Adeline Bernhardt, Janet Bielefeld, Kathy Davis, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, and Phyllis Mueller.

Ashton and Sydney Smith of Pilsen and Lucille Kerbs ate breakfast and went shopping in Hillsboro on Jan. 10.
