Tampa has become a PRIDE community.
The state PRIDE organization accepted Tampa as a member with Tampa Community Association approving the recognition Thursday.
The Kansas PRIDE program is a volunteer grassroots effort to improve the quality of life in Kansas communities.
Tampa PRIDE has accepted the responsibility of doing the volunteer work of Tampa Lions Club, which disbanded in 2009. The PRIDE committee now operates concessions at Tampa ballfield and sponsored a pancake feed. Vending machines also are available through the PRIDE program. Flowers have been planted along Main Street.
Plans include improvements to Main Street and the park, and a new park being constructed next to the ballfield when grant funds can be obtained.
Another Tampa PRIDE activity, Tampa Farmers Market, is open 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays on Main Street and in Tampa Senior Center.
