Leo Sontag took third place in the No. 2 singles bracket at the Trojan Invitational tennis tournament April 22 in Hillsboro.
He went 1-1 in pool play, defeating a player from Wichita Independent 8-3 and losing to a player from Hesston 8-2.
Ty Carey also went 1-1 in pool play, defeating a player from Neodesha 8-3 and losing to a player from Trinity Academy of Wichita 8-0.
Coach Stuart Holmes said Sontag and Carey both played in No. 2 singles — instead of Sontag playing in No. 1 singles — because of an odd number of entries. The change was made to ensure that every player in the tournament had at least three matches.
Sontag and Carey faced each other in the third-place match, and Sontag won 8-3.
River Cecil and Josh Funk went 0-3 in the No. 2 doubles bracket, ending in sixth place.
