Tennis places second at home tournament
The magic number for Hillsboro tennis at their home meet Thursday was two.
The team placed second overall out of six, bested only by the Circle Thunderbirds.
Senior Cheyenne Bernhardt and sophomore Kyla Isaac placed second among number one doubles, losing on a tiebreaker to the Chapman Fighting Irish. Chyenne and Kyla won their pool thanks to an 8-0 victory, and a win on a 7-5 tiebreaker.
Callie Bernhardt and Callie Plenert won their first match in number two doubles, and dominated their second match 8-0. They placed second also, losing to the Thunderbirds in the deciding match.
Number one singles player Kayla Gunn placed second. She won both matches in pool play, the first via forfeit and the second 8-3. Kailee Funk placed fourth among the number-two singles, losing 11-9 on a tiebreaker.
