He was born Aug. 18, 1953, in Douglass to John and Delores Smith,.

Survivors include wife Candy of the home, brother John Smith, sisters Millard Bergstrom and Debra Gould, children John Boese, Samantha Hays, Lacy Westmoland, and Shawna Garten, and six grandchildren.
