For the first time, new members were seated on the Centre board of education this month. New members used to take office in July but elections have been changed by law from April to November.

One of the three new members on the Centre board is not really new to it. Steve Jirak of Ramona has served on the board before. Thieen Antoszyk of Ramona and Lance Diepenbrock of Lincolnville are the other two.

The board elected Terry Deines as its president and Steve Jirak as vice president.

The board also approved an advertising budget of $150,000, from January through summer, for Centre’s Kansas Online Learning Program.

Four-pack teacher kits were purchased for teachers at a cost not to exceed $5,316 plus freight. The kits include calculators and charging stations.

The board approved the purchase of middle school track uniforms.

Several National Honor Society members came to the meeting to request help from the district for an educational trip to Dallas, Texas, March 14-16. The board approved district transportation and $800 for lodging.

Sherri Hudson was assigned as assistant high track coach, and Xavier Espinoza will be the assistant junior high track coach.

The board accepted the resignations of Ashley Klein and Rita Brunner as teacher aides.

Pre-kindergarten school hours will change from five full days to four and a half days next school year. The half day will be on Friday. Transportation will be provided.

Eric Carlson was appointed as TEEN representative and Heather Steiner as governmental relations representative for the remainder of the year.

The negotiating committee will be headed by Yvonne Burhoop. She will be assisted by Deines and Diepenbrock.

Deines and Antoszyk will be Centre Education Foundation representatives.

After an executive session, the board granted senior Alli Hurd permission to complete her high school education through the Internet.
