Freshman Wesley Shaw is rounding into form at the right time in his transition to high school competition, snaring a first-place finish in shot put at Hesston on Thursday.
Shaw added to that with a second-place showing, and took seventh in javelin.
“With a young thrower like Wes, he continues to refine technique with the larger implements as he moved up to high school this season,” coach Dennis Boldt said. “He has established himself as a contender in all of his throws.”
The Trojans collected second-place finishes from pole vaulter Marah Franz, 300 hurdler Tassannee Sanchez, and the girls’ 4x400 relay.
The boys picked up third-place finishes in the 4x400 relay and from Denholm in the 300 hurdles, while 800 specialist Abby Sechrist and the 4x100 relay did the same for the girls.
Boldt said that overall his team’s performance was mixed.
“It is that time of year when the dedication and training of track and field athletes begin to show in their performances,” he said.
