Too spooked to decorate? Not these Halloween lovers

Staff writer

Weather is slightly cooler and an annual celebration of all things spooky has taken hold at the Crabb home in Marion.

Denise, Jacob, and Corrina spent Saturday setting up Halloween decorations — enough to fill the porch and yard around the house.

The decorations range from small to so large they can be seen two blocks away.

Witches dance around a fire pit with a baby in it. Other witches hang from trees. A snake eats a Christmas tree — an image from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Jack Skellington, also from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” talks and sings as his ghost dog, Zero, floats beside him. Zero and the tree-eating snake are new additions this year.

So also is a dog companion of a 12-foot-tall skeleton southwest of the corner of the Crabb house at 314 Miller St.

The skeleton is so large that Denise Crabb leaves it up year-round and decorates it for other holidays as well.

Also new this year, but inside the screened-in porch, is Darth Vader holding an orange death star. Vader’s iconic deep voice was from James Earl Jones, who died Monday.

Keeping Vader company on the porch are Michael Myers from the movie “Halloween” and a “Ghost Face” character.

A skeletal bat with glowing red eyes rides a skeleton horse.

Denise Crabb adds to her collection of Halloween decorations every year.

More decorating is in store this year.

“I have a fog machine this year,” she said. “I have to get it out.”
