Trash schedule confuses residents

Many Marion residents were confused about what day their trash would be picked up this week.

Residents in the area where trash is ordinarily picked up Monday left their bags on the curb expecting it to be picked up as usual.

The city’s pickup schedule this week was adjusted so employees could have Thursday and Friday off.

On Monday, trash was collected in the valley area. On Tuesday, it was collected in the north hill area. Today, residents in the south hill area will get their trash picked up.

The week of Christmas will follow the same schedule.

Although the schedule change was included in the monthly newsletter sent out with utility bills, many residents either did not see the notice, or did not remember it.

City treasurer Becky Makovec said people who are signed up for Code Red notifications got reminders last week, but not many people have signed up for that service.
