Staff writer

Hillsboro High School basketball fans found plenty to cheer about Tuesday night, as both boys’ and girls’ teams had little trouble in dispatching their cross-county rivals from Marion.

The Lady Trojans ran away with an easy 54-25 win over Marion. Hillsboro led by 31 points at the end of the third quarter. Nine Lady Trojans contributed points.

Tena Loewen topped Hillsboro scorers with 12 points, and Krista Reimer and Callie Serene scored 8 points each.

In the boys’ game, Hillsboro used a late burst to lead Marion at the end of the first quarter, 20-10. The Trojans controlled the game from that point forward, leading 34-25 at the half, and 50-38 at the end of the third quarter. Hillsboro never let the Warriors get closer than 5 points the rest of the game, winning 67-54.

Brett Winbrenner led Hillsboro’s scoring with 17 points, followed by Josh Wiebe with 12, Christian Ratzlaff and Shaq Thiessen with 9 each, and Luke Moore with 8.
