Hillsboro golfers improved their season- best team score by 20 strokes scoring 430 to take seventh of eight teams Friday at Sacred Heart.
Elliot Ollenburger placed 16th with a 91, Carson Herbel was 31st at 104, Elias Werth was 32nd at 105, and Colin Settle was 46th at 130.
Coach Scott O’Hare said the team score in their third meet, paired with a 50-stroke improvement between their first and second meets, shows the Trojans have picked up their golf game by 70 strokes in less than two weeks.
“Although we are still not where we believe we can be, this group continues to improve at an awesome rate,” O’Hare said. “They are beginning to gain some confidence in their abilities. At this point, they just need time on the course to experience the pressure of competition.”
On Monday, the Trojans backslid a little with a team score of 434 at Sterling. However, O’Hare said it is difficult to see “consistent improvement” by all players at every meet.
Ollenburger was the low scorer with a 92, placing 15th.
