Hillsboro High School golf placed fifth of 10 teams with a team score of 423 strokes Tuesday at Herington in the season’s first golf meet.

“It’s a decent start considering we had three freshmen who had never played in a competitive golf tournament before,” coach Scott O’Hare said. “I am really excited to see how we progress this season.”

O’Hare noted that freshman Elliot Ollenburger placed 7th as an individual with 93 strokes.

Senior Philip Ediger followed just shy of the 100-stroke mark with a score of 105.

Freshman Colin Settle scored a 111, sophomore Alex Dalke shot a 114, and freshman Elias Werth finished with 115 strokes.

As a team, the Trojans finished 61 strokes behind Halstead who took first place with 362 strokes, but was only one stroke behind Goessel who placed 4th, 19 strokes behind Council Grove at 407, and 17 strokes behind Chase County at 406.

O’Hare said the tall grass at Herington’s course accounted for some of his players lost strokes.
