Trojan quartet earns all-state honors
Four members of the Hillsboro football team earned all-state Class 1A honors by The Topeka-Capital Journal.
Senior offensive lineman Wes Shaw was chosen as a first-team All-Class 1A.
Shaw was instrumental in Hillsboro rolling up 2111 yards rushing and 3790 total—the most yardage by a Trojan team since 2012.
Gaining honorable mention was the senior quartet of quarterback Jorge Hanschu, wideout Darian Ratzlaff, and linebacker Brooks Gardner.
Hanschu finished the year 8 yards shy of 2500 total yards, completing 56 percent of his passes for 1670 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for a team-high 823 yards and 11 more scores.
Ratzlaff hauled in a team-high 40 catches for 614 yards and six touchdowns while picking off a team-high five interceptions.
Gardner totalled 13 touchdowns off 784 yards, but defense was where he gained the recognition.
He was always around the ball, racking up a team-best 117 tackles with 74 solo, including 17 for losses and five sacks.
In the Wichita Eagle’s selections, Shaw was also chosen as first-team with Ratzlaff and Gardner honorable mention at their respective positions.
