Hillsboro

The Trojans defeated Berean Academy 39-35 Tuesday night to advance in the Class 2A sub-state tournament.

Lincoln Wichert led the team with 16 points and four rebounds. Noah Beavers scored nine points and pulled down two rebounds. Easton Shahan had seven points and three rebounds.

Hillsboro led by one point at halftime, 15-14, and was able to survive Berean’s attempt at a comeback in the second half to secure the victory by four points.

Hillsboro will advance in the 2A sub-state tournament and face Moundridge on Friday in Marion.

Marion

The Warriors were eliminated from the 2A sub-state tournament Tuesday night, losing to Chase County, 61-44,

Marion started off with good shooting and tight defense that kept Chase County at bay, propelling the Warriors to have a two-point lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the same shooting just wasn’t there for the Warriors, and minor turnovers turned into big plays for Chase County. The Bulldogs pulled ahead 28-17 by halftime.

Marion never gave up, however, playing aggressive and physical on both ends of the court, but it just wasn’t the answer in the end as shots continued not to fall for Marion.

Goessel

It was a frustrating start Thursday for the Goessel boys against Little River. Little River jumped out to a 13-0 lead. Goessel’s only scoring in the second quarter came from two free-throws and in the third quarter from a single field goal.

Little River led by 13 points at the end of the third quarter; 30-17.

Goessel got as close as eight points in the fourth quarter, but Little River’s deliberate offense slowed the scoring, and the game ended in a 13-point loss for Goessel; 40-27.

Leading the way for the Bluebirds was Noah Schrag with 14 points followed by Koy Smith with 5. The Bluebirds ended the season with a 10-11 record.

Peabody-Burns

Hartford eliminated the Warriors 80-48 Thursday in the 1A Division II sub state tournament.

Jameson Miles led the team with 18 points, followed by Luke Partridge with 11.

“We didn’t rebound well, which hurt us throughout the game,” coach Bobby Kyle said.

Centre

Centre’s season ended Thursday, with a 56-26 loss in the Class 1A sub state tournament at Hutchinson-Central Christian.
