Trojans, Cougars dominate meet
Both the Hillsboro and Centre High School track and field girls teams tied for first in the team standings April 13 at the Hillsboro CKTL.
The Hillsboro boys also finished first while the Centre boys finished third.
Hillsboro’s Dakota Kaufman won four first-place medals. She won the girls javelin, with a throw of 98 feet, 11 inches; the triple jump, leaping 36-8.5; the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 12.86 seconds; and as a part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team — with Peyton Loewen, Callie Serene, and Heather Mayfield — which ran a time of 4:51.57.
Other first-place winners for Hillsboro included: Ben Bebermeyer in the triple jump, 41-6; Jordan Riggs in the javelin, 128-10; Ashley Bartel in the pole vault, 6-0; Shaq Thiessen in the long jump, 21-.75; Joel Allen in the 1600, 4:58.78; Nathan Vogel in the 400, 53.48; Callie Serene in the 800, 2:45.80; Bret Mueller in the 800, 2:23.09; and Mitchell Day in the 200, 24.67, and 100, 11.06.
The Trojans had two other winning relay teams. The boys 4x800 team of Matt Richert, Josh Richert, Mueller, and Vogel finished first with a time of 9:01.97. The boys 4x100 team of Shaq Thiessen, Tyrel Thiessen, Bebermeyer, and Day also placed first with a time of 47.47.
Trevor Troutt won two first-place throwing medals for the Cougars — the shot put, with a throw of 40-9.5, and discus, going 141-04.
Other first-place finishers for Centre included Ellie Miller with a 4-8 high jump; Carlye Simons with a 15-3 long jump; Theo Kassebaum with a 17.24 time in 100-meter hurdles; and Samantha Seifert, Kassebaum, Simons, and Genesis Rudolph in the 4x100 with a time of 57.61.
