Trojans earn 2nd-place medals
The Hillsboro High School tennis team finished third out of four teams Friday at the Sterling Varsity Quadrangle.
The Trojans had three second-place finishes at the tournament: No. 1 singles player Grant Shewey, No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Hagen and Jarod Hamm, and No. 2 doubles team of Jesse Allen and Harry Faber. The Trojans also competed April 27 at the Hesston 10-team tournament.
Shewey finished 10th with wins against Jordan Ast of Conway Springs, 8-4, and Dustin Ohl of Hutchinson Trinity, 8-4.
Hagen and Hamm finished eighth with a win over the team from Wichita Collegiate, 8-7.
The Trojans head to regionals Saturday at Wichita Collegiate. The top six tennis players qualify for state.
