Trojans gain all-CKL honors

Four players from the Hillsboro High School boys’ basketball team and two from the girls were chosen for honors for the 2018-19 seasons.
For the girls, who ended the year at 7-15, falling in the semifinal game of the Marion sub state to champion, Wabaunsee, Teegan Werth and Kinsey Kleiner were recognized.
The duo combined for 44 points with 22 each, leading the Trojans to their first victory in three years in February, upending Mission Valley.
Werth was selected to the second team with Kleiner chosen as honorable mention.
For the second consecutive year, the boys fell one win short of qualifying for the state tournament, ending the year at 15-7.
That didn’t stop Darian Ratzlaff from closing out an impressive high-school career as a four-time all-league selection, despite battling injuries throughout the year.
Joining Ratzlaff as a two-time all-CKL pick, 6-4 260-pound senior Wes Shaw, was an unstoppable force.
Shaw was an honorable mention selection a year ago, but earned first-team honors his last go-round, finishing one rebound shy of four straight double-double games to end his career.
Graduation will take its toll on the boys, but the Potucek brothers will be a boon to next year’s team.
Caleb, a junior, and freshman Matthew, earned honorable mentions, with Matthew breaking into the starting rotation when Ratzlaff was injured.
