Trojans girls score win at Hoisington

The Hillsboro girls basketball team fell behind early Tuesday against Hoisington, but pulled out a 43-39 win with a strong fourth quarter.

The Trojans shot the ball just three times in the first quarter, connecting on a 3-pointer. Hoisington was ice-cold, going 1-for-16 from the field, but scored 7 free throws to lead 9-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Hillsboro narrowed the gap to 3 points at the start of the fourth quarter, and then took over the game on the offensive end of the floor. Two 3-pointers were among 7 shots nailed by the Trojans to go with 2-of-2 shooting from the free throw line. The 18- point barrage was enough to pass the Cardinals and claim the 43-39 win.

Alex Ratzlaff scored 18 points to lead the Trojans in scoring. Tara Proffitt turned in one of her best games of the season, going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line with 14 points.

Pratt

The Trojans trailed 26-17 at halftime of Friday’s game against Pratt in Hillsboro, and started the third quarter with the idea of shutting down Pratt’s offense. They did that, as the Greenbacks shot a paltry 12 percent in the quarter.

But the Trojans went cold as well, and instead of making a dent in the lead, trimmed just 2 points off the deficit. Hillsboro couldn’t make up any ground in the fourth quarter, and lost 53-44.

Ratzlaff scored 24, and Proffitt added 10.
