Trojans honor past, present, and future
Hillsboro High School, Middle School and Kids Club wrestling will host, “Trojan Wrestling: Past, Present, and Future,” Thursday at Robert C. Brown gymnasium at Hillsboro High School.
The event will combine home duals for both Hillsboro High School and Middle School wrestling teams with events to honor Hillsboro wrestlers involved since the program’s inception.
At the conclusion of the first high school dual, current kids wrestling club members, ages 4 to 14, will be introduced as a preview of Hillsboro’s wrestling future. Then past HHS wrestlers will be honored.
“We tell our wrestlers that the program is kind of a family: once a Trojan wrestler, always a Trojan wrestler,” Middle School Head Coach Kurt Bowman said. “If we truly believe in what we are telling the kids, we need to take steps to include and take care of those who have come before.”
All former wrestlers in attendance will be recognized, and the wrestlers from each of the five-year anniversary teams (2005, 2000, and 1995) will be individually honored.
Before the final high school dual of the evening, focus will shift back to the present with senior night activities. Six senior wrestlers — Matthew Yoder, Dimitri McClelland, Jared King, Max Bertinchamp, Evan Just, and A.J. Litchfield — and their parents will be recognized for their contributions to the team this year and throughout their high school careers.
Following the competitions, the evening will conclude with a reception open to all former and current Hillsboro wrestlers and their families in the high school commons area.
