Trojans place second overall in state track

The weekend’s state track meet at Wichita was mixed with soaring triumphs and one heartbreaking defeat for Hillsboro. The Trojans won three gold medals in field events, but landed one point shy of a team title.

Wes Shaw finished his high school career on top, dominating with a discus throw of 173 feet 2 inches. He won shot put as well, but his distance of 54 feet 8½ inches was well short of his usual performance.

Nate Hein has been a consistent contributer for Hillsboro and showed it over the weekend. He was the only vaulter to clear 13 feet on the first attempt and won on number of misses.

Josiah Driggers placed second in triple jump with a leap of 44 feet 2¼ inches and took fifth in long jump with a leap of 19 feet 9¾ inches.

Carson Linnens was fourth in triple jump at 43 feet 7 inches.

Jessica Saunders medaled twice for the girls, finishing fourth in shot put with a distance of 37 feet 8¼ inches, and sixth in discus with a distance of 116 feet 5 inches. Addie Berens added a medal of her own in javelin, placing fourth with 123 feet 3 inches.
