Trojans second at Hillsboro Invitational

Paced by a third-place finish by Elias Werth, Hillsboro High School golf team captured second Thursday at the Hillsboro Invitational.

The Trojans’ 374 was 13 strokes in back of Halstead’s 361 in a six-team field.

Out of 37 finishers, Werth was five strokes behind St. John’s Military winner Harper Martin, and one stroke behind Halstead’s runner-up Baylor Bohling.

The back nine foiled Werth’s chances at topping Bohling, who shot a 41 and one stroke better.

Colin Settle shot a 91 for seventh place, rounding out the Trojans’ top 10 finishers.

The back nine kept Elliot Ollenburger out of the top 10 after shooting a 46 on the front.

Ollenburger’s 49 on the back nine was two strokes behind Goessel’s Dylan Lindeman, leaving Ollenburger 11th.

Darian Ratzlaff and Avery Unruh were 19th and 20th respectively, with scores of 104.

Up next for the Trojans is a Thursday meet at Sacred Heart in Salina with action starting at 1 p.m.
