Trojans track takes 2nd at Remington

Hillsboro boys’ and girls’ track teams both scored second-place finishes at the Central Kansas Track League meet April 7 at Remington.

Without the services of state-qualifier Grant Knoll, who ran instead in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the Wichita State Shocker Pre-State Challenge on Thursday, the boys finished just four points behind Remington.

Matthew Denholm led the Trojans’ first-place finishers, winning the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, and running a leg for the winning 4x400 relay team, which included Travis King, Justin Siebert, and Jonathan Hinerman. Justus Hilliard took first in long jump, and ran on the victorious 4x100 relay with King, Cody Craney, and Kaden Ward. Hinerman grabbed another first in the 800.

Brittany Schale stepped into the absence created by Emily Sechrist also holding out to compete in Wichita, taking first in the 1,600. She teamed with Karyn Leihy, Abby Sechrist, and Marah Franz to win the 4x400 relay, and with Callie Linnens, Kennedy Klein, and Leihy to take the 4x800 relay race. Other first-place finishers were Franz in pole vault, Abby Sechrist in 110 hurdles, and Paige Craney in discus.
