Trojans win a couple tennis games at league
Hillsboro High School tennis players won one singles and one doubles match Monday at Smokey Valley during a Central Kansas League meet.
“All the guys continue to show improvement,” coach Stuart Holmes said. “It was good to a win at league in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with our inexperienced team.”
Jacob Isaac and Brandon Wiebe teamed up to win their first match 9-5 against a Larned team. However, they lost 9-0 in their next three matches to teams from Hesston, Haven, and Hoisington.
“They played an excellent first match and even though they are both freshman, the win they came away with showed their potential,” Holmes said. “There were a lot of close games.”
In singles completion, Dakota Klein went 0-3 for the day, and Josh Funk lost three matches to Larned and Hoisington opponents. However, he defeated a Pratt adversary 9-5.
“Josh played well all day. He had a win and some competitive matches,” Holmes said. “Dakota also play especially well in his long first match. He lost a lot of close games.”
The Trojans take up rackets again 11 a.m. Saturday at regionals.
