Trojans wrestlers split double dual

Hillsboro High School wrestling team defeated Halstead 48-6 and lost to Minneapolis 21-54 Thursday at Halstead.

Coach Scott O’Hare was disappointed Halstead only brought one wrestler. He said the rest were no healthy enough to compete.

“It would have been nice to get two matches for everyone,” O’Hare said. “Competition is important early in the season. It gives us a better feel of what we need to focus on.

“In the matches we did wrestle, I felt like the kids battled tough and gave good effort, but there are a lot of fundamental things we simply have to get better at.”

Against Minneapolis, Raymond Johnson won 11-4 at 120 pounds, while 126-pounder Mac Bartel and 145-pounder Kyle Horton each got pins. The rest of the Trojans were pinned in their respective matches.

O’Hare has many intense and explosive drills planned for practice to help prepare wrestlers for pre-Christmas competition.

The Trojans wrestle next at 3 p.m. Friday.
