Trump bashing

To the editor:

Last week’s letter from Harry E. Bennett brings to mind an editor’s note published Feb. 18, 2025, in response to a letter from Dianne Novak.

We were reminded that the Record is a local, not national newspaper, and that her letter would be the last letter published on President Donald Trump’s national agenda.

Since then, several letters written by Trump haters have been published. This questions the credibility of the publisher of a local newspaper.

Perhaps Bennett should enlighten himself on the history of the pro-slavery Democratic Party. Need I also mention the Progressive and Democrat groups in bed with fascism and Nazism in the 1920s and 1930s? There’s more.

We can go on and on about the pros and cons of each political party and our perceived differences, but is it worth all the division it causes?

Marion County certainly doesn’t need an out-of-stater dumping his dirty laundry here. If one cannot discern between good and bad policies of elected officials with an open mind, then perhaps it would be best not to continue stoking the fire.

At some point, someone gets burned.

Let’s hope the publisher of the Record will see the need to uphold higher standards for incorporating civility into what needs to be a local newspaper.

Editor’s note — The Bennett letter was accepted not because it opposed Trump but because it dealt with how Marion County, with few African Americans, sent delegates in 1988 to a state convention supporting Jesse Jackson for president.
