Goessel High School graduates Garret Hiebert and Tyler Schroeder will be participating in the NAIA national track meet at Edwardsville, Ill., this week.
Hiebert earned all-American status in the javelin with a fourth-place finish last year. At the 2008 meet, his second throw of 194 feet, seven inches was good enough to finish in the top five.
This year, Hiebert has thrown farther than 200 feet several times. He is going into the meet ranked fourth with a top throw of 210-5.
Hiebert graduated from GHS in 2007 and is attending Bethel College.
He is scheduled to throw at 7:00 pm Thursday at Edwardsville.
Schroeder, who graduated in 2006, did not throw the shot put farther than 50 feet until this season.
His best throw at a home meet at Bethel College of 51-0.25 qualified him to throw at nationals.
Schroeder is ranked 22nd in the nation and hopes to
explode with another personal best in order to move up in the rankings.
He is now less than one inch away from the school record at Bethel according to
his throwing coach.
Schroeder will throw at 1:00 pm. Friday at the national meet.
