Unruh takes 12th at Sacred Heart

Hillsboro Trojan golf coach Scott O’Hare said before the season even started he had a few simple goals for his inexperienced team.

One was improving daily.

O’Hare can check that off.

The Trojans certainly had to Friday, competing at the Sacred Heart Invitational in Salina at the Municipal Golf Course.

With only a trio of competitors in action, Avery Unruh paced the Trojans with a 90 for 12th place — a stroke out of making it a three-way tie for 10th place.

Unruh’s 90 was 14 strokes better than his first tournament of the season.

Eli Dalke and Frank Wichert also made huge strides with Dalke’s 116 — 11 strokes better than his Herington output and Wichert 13 better for a 121.

“All three of them showed significant improvement from their previous tournament round,” O’Hare said. “I am hopeful the trend will continue as they gain more competition experience.”

As expected, the hosting, defending state champion Knights breezed through the competition, beating runner-up St. John’s Military by 103 strokes, 299-402.

Six of the top 10 finishers were Knights with a trio rounding out the top three, paced by Kameron Shaw’s 71.

Hillsboro was unable to keep a team score because they only had three competitors.

The Trojans complete the week Thursday at the Hesston junior varsity meet.
