Unwanted prescriptions collected Oct. 22

Hillsboro police will collect potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 22.

The service is performed in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency. It is free and anonymous. Participants will not be asked any questions.

Medication should be dropped off at Hillsboro Police Department at 414 N. Ash St. Police ask participants to refrain from dropping of liquids, needles, and sharps as the DEA only accepts pills and patches.

Police believe that medicines languishing in the home cabinets are high susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. The initiative is meant to promote public safety and health by curbing accidental poisonings and overdoses.
