Virgil Waner

Virgil Waner, 98, formerly of Florence, died Nov. 14 at Warrensburg Manor Care Center.

He was born May 28, 1913, in Florence to George Franklin and Mary Agatha Meirowsky Waner.

He married Mabel Winkley on Oct. 4, 1938, in Florence. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2011.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Lawrence Waner and Opal Beck.

He retired after 30 years working for Ford Motor Company as parts and service manager at Knoll Ford in Florence and later at Jerry Harris Ford in Marion. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence and was active in the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his son, Gary Waner of Warrensburg, Mo.; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

All services will be held Saturday at Holy Family Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Florence, with the Rosary beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for Knights of Columbus Council 3423 of Pilsen in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, KS, 66861.
